The News Minute | July 4, 2014 | 12.52 pm ISTAn analysis of the causes of unnatural deaths of men and women reveals a curious finding: in 2013, men mostly died in road accidents, and women tended to commit suicide.A report published in The Hindu shows that according to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, the “biggest non-disease” causes of death among men were road accidents with over 1.17 lakh deaths. For women, it was suicide: 44,256 women committed suicide in 2013. The second biggest cause of death for men was suicide and for women it was accidents. The report said: “These causes have a lot to do with occupational status in India. The bulk of travel for work is by men, and the road and rail accident statistics reflect that,” Dr. P Arokiasamy, professor in the department of Development Studies at the International Institute of Population Studies, and expert on fertility and mortality.”
