Rupert Murdoch has come in for much derision over his tweet congratulating his newspaper for getting the outcome of the Sydney hostage situation into its final edition.

On December 16, Murdoch tweeted: “AUST gets wake-call with Sydney terror. Only Daily Telegraph caught the bloody outcome at 2.00 am. Congrats.”

According to The Guardian, senior western journalists and even journalists formerly with newspapers owned by Murdoch’s News Corp have criticized the man for praising his newspaper’s coverage when three people had died.

The New Daily depicted the front page of the Daily Telegraph, carrying the coverage of the outcome on toilet paper.
