All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is all set to place a firm foot in Uttar Pradesh today with the visit of party chief Asaduddin Owaisi, in what is touted as an important political move, ahead of the 2017 assembly elections. According to a report in the Times of India, Owaisi will attend an Iftar party hosted by the state unit of the party at Meerut before heading to Agra where he would attend another Iftar party on Tuesday. Owaisi's earlier plans to hold a rally in Allahabad, once on March 29 and once on April 26 was thwarted by the local administration who refused to give him permission. The report adds that Samajwadi Party, the current ruling party in the state has been cautious of Owaisi as it is likely to dent its crucial Muslim vote bank. The party is expected to closely monitor the AIMIM chief's movements in the state.
