Muslim youths assaulted in UP for allegedly carrying ox hide, case booked against them

Two Muslim youths in Ramgaon area of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh were assaulted by a mob led by Shiv Sena activists on Sunday for allegedly carrying the hide of an ox, reported The Indian Express.

Afsar Ali and Pairu, both in their early 20s, were arrested and booked under the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act following which they were remanded in judicial custody, states the report.

Bahraich Additional SP Arvind Bhushan Pandey told the The Indian Express that Afsar and Pairu were beaten up, but no action had been taken against the assaulters because no complaint had been filed against them so far.

According to Ramgaon Station Officer D P Kushwaha, the two men told the police that they had bought the ox hide to make dhols, but could not answer when asked, who they bought it from.
