Mangaluru water crisis to abate as water level in Thumbe dam rises to 7 ft

Written by : PTI

The water crisis in Mangaluru is likely to come to an end soon as the water level in Thumbe dam which provides water for the city stood at seven feet on Wednesday as against the maximum of 13 feet.

With the positive sign, the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has directed the Mangaluru City Corporation to supply water to the city every day.

The district administration intends to maintain the dam water level at 6.5 feet.

Water released from Nekkilady Dam resulted in the inflow of water.

Rain in several catchment areas has also contributed to the increase in water level.

The city was reeling under acute water crisis since last month and supply had been restricted to once in three days.

Even private suppliers could not provide enough water to meet the demand due to non -availability of water.

The monsoon is likely to hit the region in a week or two, official sources said.
