Written by : TNM Staff

Following the alleged ragging of 19-year-old nursing student by seniors at the Al Qamar college of nursing in Kalaburgi district, the Indian Nursing Association has said that necessary action would be taken against the college.

According to a Mathrubhumi report, President of the Association T Dileep Kumar said on Monday that there were a series of lapses on the part of the college and indicated that the accreditation of the college might be cancelled.

He told media that action will be taken against the college after receiving report from the INA commission which visited the college on Monday. He said that the college did not follow the mandatory guidelines laid down by the UGC to prevent ragging in the college.

Ashwathy, a Dalit student who hails from Kerala, was allegedly forced to drink phenyl, a toilet cleaning liquid, on May 9 by four senior students. The Kalaburgi police had arrested three accused and remanded them to judicial custody, while launching search for the fourth accused.

The college authorities had claimed that Ashwathy was not subjected to ragging, but had attempted to commit suicide.
