A 21-year-old female British hockey player of Indian origin has filed a written complaint of sexual harassment against Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh at the Koom Kalan police station in Ludhiana on Tuesday.

Police Commissioner P S Umranangal said that no FIR has been registered against Singh and the allegations are being verified.

“The woman has alleged sexual harassment and filed a written complaint against national hockey captain Sardar Singh. The maternal family of the player lives near Bhaini Sahib and the woman has alleged that they met during visits to this religious sect’s guru. An FIR has not been registered as investigation is going on,” Umranangal told Indian Express.

“I met him during the London Olympics and we got to know each other better after that. We got engaged but in 2015 I got pregnant. He told me to abort the child, which I did against my wishes and without getting support from anyone,” the complainant told the newspaper.

“I will answer all your questions, give me some time,” Sardar Singh told ANI on Tuesday afternoon as he insisted that he and the complainant were not engaged.
Speaking on the matter, Gurnaam Singh, Sardar’s father told the agency, “This is a conspiracy to ruin his career.”

Some section of the media also speculated that Hockey India might help the Indian skipper in legal proceedings. 

The 29-year-old-midfielder became the youngest Indian hockey captain in 2008 after making his debut in 2006 against Pakistan. He has also played in the Belgian league and is the highest paid player in the Hockey India League.
