Four Indians detained by Syria for 'suspected ISIS links' back home, says Sushma Swaraj

Four Indians who were detained in the war torn country of Syria in suspicion of them joining the ISIS were released on Sunday.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday tweeted, “We have secured the release of four Indian nationals from Syria.”

Swaraj also tweeted that their release was discussed with Syria Deputy PM Walid Al Moaulem’s visit in the country in January this year.

 In January, Syria had taken four Indian youths in its custody, who were purportedly planning to the join terrorist outfit ISIS, and asked the Indian authorities the verify their details.

However, it was not established if the suspects were really connected to the ISIS or had any intention to join the terror organization.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday tweeted, “We have secured the release of four Indian nationals from Syria.”

In a series of tweets, Swaraj thanked the Syrian authorities and Indian officials who facilitated the smooth return.
