A suicide bomber is said to have detonated an explosives-ridden-car near Kabul’s International airport on Sunday, wounding at least 16 civilians and two teenage girls. The attack is believed to have been aimed at vehicles of the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan, officials told the Associated Press.

The report mentions that the bombing happened at a major security checkpoint leading up to the airport according to Najib Danish, deputy spokesperson for the Interior Ministry. The car-bomb is said to have exploded a few hundred yards from the airport terminal.

"We believe our vehicles were involved," Sari Haukka-Konu, a spokeswoman for EUPOL, told The Associated Press. Danish has reportedly said that a foreign vehicle and two civilian vehicles have been damaged in the blast.

A Reuters report says that the police claim the attack was conducted with the NATO troops in mind.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
