Many prominent Keralites have come forward saying, "let's go to Down Town."Last Thursday, Yuva Morcha of BJP in Kerala had vandalized this café in Kozhikode after a Congress owned news channel Jai Hind TV had run an investigative news report showing a couple kissing, others partying, which the channel claimed was immoral and illegal.Yuva Morcha members smashed windows and destroyed all furniture inside the café. Rubbishing the claims made by the channel and the members, twenty-five-year-old Basil, owner of the café, had opened the café the same evening. The café got a good number of customers on that day.Influential people are putting up comments in social media in support of the café. On Saturday, Malayalam film maker Aashiq Abu shared the café’s post about re-opening on his Facebook page with a message “Let's go Downtown.” The post received numerous “likes.” Further, the director also shared a video which interviewed people who had visited the café after it was re-opened. The video showed the café’s regular customers saying that it was their duty to be with the owner and management of the restaurant. The video again received close to 66,000 viewership and was shared 4,200 times.Post by Ashkar Lessirey.Actor, director and playright John Mathew also showed support to the café by visiting it. He posted on his page in Facebook a picture of his and his friends in the café with a title “Down with moral facism. My solidarity to the Down Town Restaurant Kozhikode.”With people from cine industry extending support publicly, the café is witnessing a flow of customers. Even those who had not eaten or heard about the restaurant are now flocking in. Though victimized by an act of moral policing, the café has earned limelight. Looks like a Yuva Morcha attack isn’t bad for business.
