School management head arrested for asking why child sexual abuse victim didn't die or faint

The News Minute | January 2, 2014 | 4.10 pm ISTPerod Abdurahman Saqafi, the secretary of Sirajul Huda Educational Complex, has been arrested by the crime branch for allegedly making an abusive statement against a four-and-a-half year old sexual assault victim at Nadapuram. Later he was let out on bail.The arrest was based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father.Saqafi had blamed the child for her behavior in his speech made on November 11 in the school.The incident reportedly took place on October 30, and came to light more than a week later. The child was a student at an English school near Nadapuram town, in Kozhikode district.Saqafi had allegedly insulted the child in his speech saying “If such a thing happened, she should have died, fainted, should have been covered with blood or should have at least screamed.”Two senior students of the school were arrested on November 15 in connection with the incident. They were charged under IPC 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
