Written by : TNM

The News Minute | November 25, 2014 | 10.35 am ISTA suggestion that the workers hailing from other countries be permitted to stay in Kuwait only for 10 years, has received the nod of the Working Committee of Kuwait Parliament. There were reports that the cap on stay for foreign workers would be five years, but this was refuted by the chairman of the committee, Manorama reported. The bill also says that workers from any foreign country should not be more than 15% of the Kuwaitis. 1.87 lakh is 15% of Kuwaitis in the country and working people from other countries far exceed this figure. For instance, there are already over 7 lakh Indians working there. If the bill comes into force over 5.13 lakh Indians will be sent back to India. However, the bill needs approval of other concerned parliamentary committees and the parliament itself to come into force.
