Overworked hospital superintendent breaks down after Kerala MLA PC George visits

When Congress MLA PC George visited the Mundakayam Taluk hospital in Kollam district, things took a dramatic turn when the hospital superintendent broke down before him.The MLA was conducting a surprise inspection of the hospital, when he discovered that only 2 doctors were on duty, instead of seven doctors.  When he questioned the Superintendent of the hospital, Dr.Nirmala, she broke down in front of the MLA saying that she had been on duty for as long as 24 hours.The hospital had recently been upgraded from a government hospital status to the taluk level. George reportedly visited the hospital after several reports had emerged about the lack of doctors in the hospital. Mundakayam taluk hospital is one that a lot of people from Kottayam and nearby Idukki district depend on.Further, George told Reporter channel that the superintendent herself had to assume the responsibility to compensate for the lack of doctors in the hospital. He said that the issue will be brought to the notice of the health department.
