Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Aby’s death has caused an irreparable loss to the Malayalam film industry. The 52-year-old succumbed to dengue fever at the Amrita Hospital in Kochi on Thursday, which had his family, fans and the entire film fraternity devastated. 

Several film personalities have condoled the death of the actor and notable among them are Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Nivin Pauly wrote: “No words can describe my sadness. The sudden demise of Abi chettan came as a shocking news this morning. From Amitabh Bachchan to Aminathatha...you have made everyone smile & with your work time and again, you have proved that mimicry is an art! Thank you for the beautiful memories. You will be surely missed! Rest in peace Abi chetta!”

Dulquer wrote on his Facebook page: “Can't stop thinking about the countless times he's made us laugh. A lot of my growing up had watching his shows on TV or even seeing him live on stage shows abroad with my father. His immense talent and endearing charm was timeless. And now Shane his son is one of our greatest breakout talents of Malayalam. Having done several films with him, I got to see Abi ikka a lot of late. This is so sudden and so unexpected. My deepest condolences to the family. Our prayers and love to them always.”

Prithviraj wrote: "RIP Abi Ikka! I’m sure you’ll be watching from above as Shane makes you proud!"

A noted actor and mimicry artiste, Kalabhavan Aby acted in a number of films sharing screen space with some of the top actors. Some of his impressive performances came in films such as Nayam Vyakthamaakkunnu, Kaasargode Khaadarbhai, Rasikan, Thanthonni and Thrissivaperur Kliptham.

He is survived by his wife Sunila, son Shane Nigam and daughters Ahana and Aleena.
