A day after the special wing of Kerala police gunned down two Maoists in an encounter in Nilambur in Malappuram, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran lashed out at the state government for its action. 

He said that the Kerala government wasn't elected to imitate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

CPI is the largest constituent in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state.

“Who has the right to kill someone who openly expresses their opinions? There are many who work for the welfare of the tribes and the Scheduled Castes. Instead of checking the merits of their demands and slogans, suppressing their voice is not an action that is suited to a civilized society,” Kanam said. 

He held that the state government cannot use anti-terrorist acts against those people, who raise their voice for the welfare of other communities. 

In an encounter held on Thursday, two Maoists-Kuppu Devaraj and Ajitha-were killed by Thunderbolt, the special wing of the police.
