LDF fields Shailaja from Koothuparambu in hope of regaining lost ground

Written by : TNM Staff

With just a month and a half to go for the forthcoming assembly polls, the LDF on Wednesday announced 124 candidates out of the total 140 seats.

In a ploy to recover lost ground in Kannur district’s Koothuparambu constituency the LDF has fielded CPI(M) central committee member KK Shailaja.

This party understandably chose to field the heavyweight leader keeping in view the recent gains in civic polls held last year and in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

This seat in Kannur district which is known to be a fortress for the communists was won by sitting minister KP Mohan.

Earlier Shailaja was considered for the Peravoor constituency.

Incidentally, the constituency is expected to witness a tripartite struggle of sorts, as the NDA had named C Sadanandan Master as its candidate from the Koothuparambu constituency.

Sadanandan is a well-known RSS functionary based in Mattanur in Kannur district who was brutally assaulted by alleged CPI(M) goons.

Both his legs were brutally chopped off in the assault on February 25, 1994.
