The News Minute| September 11, 2014| 8.00 am ISTThe Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has asked the Congress high command to restrain Congress lawyers from holding brief for the liquour barons of the state. The bar owners had approached the Supreme Court and the case has been listed for hearing today. According to Manorama Online, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC President V.M. Sudheeran told the high command that it would be a deep embarrassment if Congress lawyers argued case for the bar owners, which was challenging a decision taken by the Congress government in Kerala. The Kerala government had ordered the closing down of all bars in the state that were not 5 star. The bar owners had earlier approached the Kerala High Court and the court agreed to hear their plea but not issue a stay order on the government’s decision. It was then that they approached the Supreme Court.The bar owners of Kerala have employed the most high profile lawyers of the country. Ram Jethmalani, Aryaman Sundaram, Fali S. Nariman and Rajeev Dhavan would argue their case and the Kerala government has employed the Former Union Minister and Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court Kapil Sibal.
