After the election commission issued notification on filing of nominations for the assembly elections to be held on May 16, as many as 29 candidates filed nominations on the first day on Friday.
Of the 420 candidates contesting from 140 assembly constituencies, the maximum number of nominations were filed from Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram districts as 7 candidates turned in their nominations respectively.
BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan and former KPCC president V Muraleedharan who will battle against each other in Vattiyoorkavu constituency in Thiruvananthapuram were among the first to have filed their nomination papers at the collectorate. According to reports, KM Mani, Thiruvanjur Radhakrishnan and Padmaja Venugopal were some other prominent candidates who filed nomination papers on the very first day.
The filing of nominations will continue till April 29.
