Written by : TNM Staff

Taking law into their own hands, a group of men brutally beat up and attacked a man at Taliparamba in Kannur for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a store on Sunday. The incident took place after the police let the man walk free after finding him innocent.

On Sunday afternoon, the Taliparamaba police took a man into custody after he was accused of stealing a mobile phone from a shop. The police, however, let the man go after their inquiries revealed that it was a misunderstanding and that he is innocent.

A shocking video of him being beaten up has surfaced, and is being widely shared on social media platforms like WhatsApp. The video shows the man being dragged through the street by a group of young men. The victim cries out in pain, but passers-by watch on unmoved, as the group continues to kick and hit him.

“He was attacked after he was let off from the police station on Sunday. We did not know about it until we received the video. We have taken one person into custody, who was identified from the video. But the victim in the case is missing,” a policeman from Taliparamba station told TNM.

The police said that a case can be registered only after receiving the complaint from the victim.

Last April, a 19-year-old youth from Taliparamba was abducted and beaten up after being seen with a female classmate.
