Image for representationKerala Public Prosecutor Mohan C Menon has removed the assistant special public prosecutor in the Paravoor case from his office after it was alleged that he demanded a bribe to influence the case in favour of theh accused.Menon has informed the Ernakulam crime branch that he has removed Ayub Khan from his office, after they alleged that Ayub Khan had demanded money from the accused to secure bail. Khan has denied any kind of malpractice.The Paravoor rape case goes back to 2010, when a minor girl's parents sold her to two men who offered her a career in films. Four people were convicted last year.According a Mathrubhumi report, the Crime Branch has video and audio clippings of Ayub Khan allegedly demanding up to Rs 1 crore from the accused in the Paravoor rape case for securing bail. In the tapes, Ayub allegedly tells the accused that he can influence the investigating officer in their favor, in return for money. It is not clear how the crime branch came in possession of the tapes.Mohan Menon, however, has told the media that he did not think the allegations against Khan are true. Khan got the job after Mohan Menon, the public prosecutor appointed him. Last year, Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court found five people guilty in the case, including her parents. Four of the convicted – the girl’s parents, producer Janatha Vijayan and Biju of Arackappady Kara, Perumbavoor – were sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment. Another accused Manoj, 42, of Iringole Kara, Perumbavoor, got five years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.25,000.
