The News Minute | July 13, 2014 | 11:41 AM IST Spelling probable relief for teachers and other staffs in the unaided education sector, the Kerala government has drafted a plan which seeks to implement minimum wages for teachers who work in registered, unaided schools.The draft rule is in the making, and Labour department is overseeing the process. The final draft will be finalized after discussions with certain departments in the education sector. The proposal also seeks to punish managements that do not provide minimum wages as ordered by the government. The minimum wages are to be declared by a special committee, which is constituted of employers as well as teachers in the unaided sector. The committee also will have independent members, reports say. Once the rules and regulations come into place, the minimum wages should be paid through bank accounts of teachers. The draft also is making provisions to provide money for overtime work, and also a one-day mandatory off every week.The draft holds that minimum wages should be reviewed once in five years at least.
