Kerala Congress president asks cabinet to re-consider its decision to hike taxes

The News Minute | September 20, 2014 | 12.30 pm ISTThe Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President VM Sudheeran has asked the state cabinet to re-consider its decision to hike water, tobacco and liquour taxes."The government should examine the decision to hike taxes and water tariff. The KPCC will study the matter and submit a report to the government", Sudheeran told reported Manorama Online. The Communist party criticized the government for this decision and called for a boycott of payment of taxes.Even within the Congress there are some members who are disappointed with the decision. Chief Whip PC Chako said that the ordinance route for tax hike was incorrect. He urged the government to convene a special session of the assembly to discuss the matter.
