Parents of the 19-year-old girl who committed suicide allegedly over ragging by her senior students at MHES Arts and Science college in Kozhikode, alleged that police have intentionally botched up the investigation.

Hashinas, a second-year BSc Microbiology student of MHES College, was found hanging inside the bathroom on the evening of July 22, 2016.

In a press meet held at Doha, Hashinas’ father Hameed told media that the family has not yet received justice.

“It has been seven months since she committed suicide after she was ragged by her seniors. The accused students had the support of teachers at the college. We approached the MLA, ministers and chief minister seeking justice, but no one was ready to help us. I even gave a complaint in the embassy since I am an NRI, but I didn’t even get an answer from them,” Hameed rued.

Hameed also alleged that police have not investigated the case properly and that is why it took so long to file a charge sheet.

The police inspector at Payyoli, who was in charge of the investigation told The News Minute that police filed a charge sheet in court on February 23.

“There are 13 accused in the case including students and teachers. They are all on bail. We have done a proper investigation. Since there was no suicide note, we had to confirm what was the reason for her death,” he said.

The police arrested seven senior students including three boys and three girls of the same college based on a police complaint filed by Hashinas’ family.

Police had later charged a case against a few teachers too.

Hameed said that the teachers forced his daughter to issue a public apology when she approached them with a complaint of ragging by senior students.

He also said in the press meet that the college management failed to take the complaint seriously.
