Jisha rape and murder: Dalit organization declares hartal; LDF refuses to support

Written by : TNM Staff

The rape and brutal murder of Jisha, a 30-year-old dalit woman in Kerala's Perumbavoor continued to trigger massive protests from the public.

As the police have not been able to nab the culprits, a group of protesters declared a hartal in the state.

The 'dawn to dusk' hartal on Tuesday was called for by the Kerala Dalit Co-operation movement. The organizers have reportedly stated that the hartal will be peaceful.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that LDF will not support the hartal called for by the dalit organization.

“Some people who have no name or address have declared hartal without discussing with the LDF. Even the prominent Dalit organisation KPMS doesn’t have any link with the organisation that has declared hartal,” he was quoted as saying.
