The body of a newborn boy was found abandoned on the roadside in Fort Kochi on Tuesday.

According to police, the baby was only about two days old and an autopsy report revealed that the baby had been dead for nearly 15 hours.

Fort Kochi police told The News Minute that they were alerted by Kochi taluk hospital about the incident, after passersby took the infant’s body to the hospital.

“The body was wrapped in a plastic cover and abandoned besides a wall near the road. The locals took the body to the hospital after they noticed flies around the plastic cover and checked the contents,” Fort Kochi Sub-Inspector Bijesh said.

The police told The Times of India that there were two minor injuries on the body. The umbilical cord was still attached to the baby’s body.

A case has been filed for unnatural death under Section 174 of CrPC.
