A day after a man in Kottayam  was arrested for allegedly killing his father, an NRI, over a property dispute, police have recovered the latter’s remains from the Pamba river.

According to the police, Sherin admitted that he had shot dead his father Joy P John (68) and burnt his body before dumping it into the river.

Police have also reportedly recovered the murder weapon from Sherin, who works in the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark.

The police initiated the investigation following a complaint by Joy’s wife, which led to the arrest.

A similar incident was reported in the state in 2009 when Bhaskara Karanavar (59), also an NRI, was killed by his daughter-in-law and two others after the daughter-in-law was denied any property in his will. The incident was known as Karanavar murder case.

Sherin (no relation to the accused in the current case), then 24, had reportedly strangulated Bhaskara.

She was later sentenced to life imprisonment on 10 June 2010.
