That connection between electricity and politicians in Kerala

Written by : TNM

The News Minute| October 17 2014 | 9.35 am ISTIt seems politicians and the government of Kerala has a strange connection with electricity.Former minister and expelled congress leader T H Mustafa has been fined Rs. 8000 by The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB)… His crime? Mustafa was stealing electricity. A raid by the KSEB‘s anti-power theft squad in Mustafa’s residence at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam revealed the theft. He used the power supplied for agriculture for domestic purpose. Mustafa’s ‘power’ play comes into light just three days after power supply was cut off to the Kerala Secretariat for 3 hours for non-payment of dues. As the annexe building of the State Secretariat association plunged into darkness, the Secretariat association claimed that it was deliberate move by the government to embarrass them. That’s not all. In September, KSEB had disconnected the power supply to the office of Malayalam actor and present MP Innocent for non-payment of a bi-monthly bill amounting to Rs. 365.
