Will conduct BBMP polls within three months, state informs SC

 Karnataka state government on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that it was willing to hold the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls within three months.According to a Deccan Herald report, the three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice HL Dattu, Justices S A Bobde and Arun Mishra set aside the Karnataka High Court division bench order passed on April 24 which allowed the government six months time to conduct the polls.It restored the order of the single bench which had directed the State to conduct the polls by May 30.Representating the State government before the Supreme Court, advocate Kapil Sibal submitted to the court that since the panchayat polls were scheduled for May 29 and June 2, the BBMP elections would be held within thee months.NGO Namma Bengaluru foundation and corporators L Ramesh, P Sukumaran and CK Ramamurthy had petitioned the Supreme Court to set aside the April 24 high court order, said the report.
