Written by : TNM Staff

Miscreants allegedly pelted stones at Pejavar seer Vishveshwa Tirtha Swami’s car and the vehicles of his supporters on Belagavi district on Tuesday morning. The police however, say this incident was false, and blown out of proportion.

Kannada daily Kannada Prabha reported that a group of miscreants threw stones at the Pejavar seer’s car on Tuesday morning. The seer was on his way to an event in the Krishna Mutt in RPD Cross when stones were pelted.

On reaching the venue, the seer apprised BJP MP Suresh Angadi of the developments. Kannada Prabha reported that Angadi has informed the Home Minister’s office of these events.

Belagavi Police Commissioner S Ravi however, told The News Minute that the incident had been falsely reported, and also blown out of proportion. He said that on Monday night, the seer’s followers had been put up in Belagavi town, while the seer himself had been accommodated elsewhere. The windshields of two cars had been damaged.

“It is a minor incident. There were two stones. I don’t think even the stone pelters knew who those cars belonged to. Nonetheless, we have taken up the case suo moto,” he said.
