Upalokayukta directs officer to probe bribery demand in Lokayukta office

Written by : TNM

Upalokayukta Subhash B Adi on Tuesday ordered a detailed investigation into reports by Lokayukta (City) SP Sonia Narang that a bribery demand of Rs. 1 crore was sought inside the Lokayukta office and asked her to submit a report by July 6, reported Deccan Herald.Few members of Janaadhikara Sangharsh Parishath had submitted a petition to Justice Adi recently expressing apprehension over allegations of corruption within the agency and had requested for an impartial probe. In its complaint, it said that the common man looks up to the institution as ombudsman against corruption, a ray of hope for those harassed. Hence, when a senior IPS officer submits a report alleging corruption within the Lokayukta, remaining silent without acting on the report damages the image of the institution as well as adversely affects public’s faith in it, the complainants wrote in the letter.SP Narang had submitted report on May 11 stating that an executive engineer was threatened in the Lokayukta office on May 5 by a man posing as Lokayukta staffer and had demanded a bribe on Rs. one crore, failing which the Lokayukta would raid his residence, added the report.
