For those commuters who rely on public transport to ply between office and home, Thursday may prove to be difficult as employees of state road transport undertakings have called for a nation wide strike to protest against the proposed Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2014.In Bengaluru the city buses - BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) and state transport - KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) have extended their support to the bandh, reported Deccan Herald. According to transport firm employees, the new law will "curtail the powers of state-owned transport corporations and will favour private bus operators," the report said.Along with the two state transport services, even the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) and North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) will not hit the roads, said the report.KSRTC Managing Director Rajendra Kataria was quoted as, “We are trying to convince the union members not to cause inconvenience to the public. We support the issues being raised by them but strike is not the solution. We will decide on the morning of April 30 after assessing the situation."According to a report in The Hindu, even the autorickshaws are in support of the bandh and will stay off roads. Cab aggregators such as Ola and TaxiFor Sure have said they would assess the situation before taking a decision to operate cabs or not. Metro and trains will run normally, the report said.
