Three construction workers died and one person was injured in Bengaluru’s Koramanagala area after a compound wall of the adjacent building collapsed, burying the workers on Saturday.

The Times of India reported that massive digging weakened the compound wall of the adjacent building.

Deccan Chronicle reported that the incident happened between 5.50 pm and 6.00 pm, when over 10 workers were marking the foundation spot for a wall to be built. The site was also excavated for a parking lot in the basement.

The bodies had to reportedly be dug out of the debris. One person who survived was sent to a hospital for treatment.

Denying responsibility, BBMP commissioner Manjunath said that it was an “illegal” construction as there was no approved plan and they had started the construction without the corporation’s approval.

The deceased were identified as Ishafir, 26, and Rukchand, 24 and Shivalinga.

Ishafir and Rukchand are from West Bengal and Shivalinga is from Tamil Nadu.

A case has been registered in Koramangala police station against the property owner.

Manjunath said that the accident will be investigated by the town planning officer.

Two engineers, Chennaveeraiah and Savithri were suspended for dereliction of duty.
