The News Minute | January 11, 2015 | 11.06 am ISTThe families of the three men Bengaluru police arrested on Thursday have countered the information released to the media about the men’s alleged links to terror groups.Syed Ismail Afaque (34), Saddam Hussein (35), and Abdus Subur (24) were arrested by the police from Bhatkal town in Uttara Kannada district on charges of suspected links with the Indian Mujahideen. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the families of the suspects have said that the men had no such links.Read: Homeopathy doctor suspected to be supplier of explosives to Indian MujahideenThe Hindustan Times report quotes neighbours of Subur saying that several of them saw police take a few bags to Subur’s house. At a press conference by the families on Saturday, Subur’s mother Khamarunissa said, “Our house (where the police claim explosives were recovered) has been locked for the past two months as we have been living at my sister’s place.”Afaque’s mother said that the police had claimed that her son had made calls to Pakistan. She said at the press conference: “The police told the media that my son made calls to Pakistan. What they didn’t tell you is that he’s married to a Pakistani who lives with us in Bhatkal.”Tweet
