State government suspends two officials for dereliction of duty after child falls into borewell

The News Minute | August 6, 2014 | 09:47 am ISTTwo officials have been suspended by the the Karnataka Government for dereliction of duty after a six-year-old boy fell into a borewell in Sulikeri village of Bagalkot district, Karnataka, on Sunday, states a report by The New Indian Express. Shaukat Ali Murnal, Panchayat Development Officer, and Kurubagatti, Assistant Executive Engineer of local Taluk Panchayat, were suspended by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. The six-year-old boy Thimmanna is said to be stuck at 160 feet below and the district administration is making all efforts to rescue the boy. A one month deadline has been given to civic officials to cap all defunct and abandoned borewells in the city and in the 110 villages that come under BBMP, adds the report.
