A senior citizen died of cardiac arrest while standing in a bank queue in Tumakuru district on Saturday.

Seventy-year-old Siddappa was standing at the State Bank of Mysore branch in Chelur village. He was waiting to exchange demonetised notes for new ones, reported The Times of India.

Siddappa had gone to the bank around 10:30 am to exchange Rs 31000.

He was not accompanied by any family member. He reportedly collapsed after entering the bank. 

The bank staff rushed him to the nearest hospital, where Siddappa was declared brought dead. 

He is survived by wife Rangamma and sons Raveesh and Anand.

According to TNIE report, Siddappa was a resident of Hullaiahyanna Palya where he had 4 acres of land. 

TOI quoted a relative Rangaiah saying that Siddappa had no health problems and even worked independently on his farm. 

Tumakuru police have registered a case.

The government on Friday announced that banks across India could only serve senior citizens in exchanging scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on Saturday.

So far, there have been 35 reported deaths reported due to demonetisation as claimed by families.
