One dead, two policemen injured in firing during Cauvery protests in Bengaluru

In the first death to be reported in the ongoing violence in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery river water dispute, one man has been killed in police firing in Bengaluru. Two policemen were also injured during the incident. 

The state DGP has confirmed the death to the media.

The incident is said to have occurred in the Rajagopalnagar area of north Bengaluru. Police at the Rajagopalnagar station said that one man had died but his identity is not yet known.

According to sources in the Karnataka police intelligence, the firing occured when a group of protesters were ransacking a supermarket. As the Hoysala Police van approached the protesters, they tried to set the police van on fire, and the police retaliated.
