A 30-year-old Mysuru woman died two days after she was allegedly set ablaze by her sister.

The Hindu reported that Puttavenktamma, who was from Badanavalu village, succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday. She was set on fire by her younger sister Pallavi, who accused her of having a relationship with her husband in Mysuru.

Pallavi has been booked for murder and Mysuru rural police have registered a case and are investigating.

According to the police, Puttavenkatamma had come to her maternal house in Vajamangala near Mysuru 5 months ago. She had moved in after reportedly fighting with her husband. Her sister, who was from Danayakanapura in T Narasipura, was also at home for the village festival, Marihabba, along with husband Mallesh.

The Times of India reported that the fight initially started over buying saris on Wednesday night and escalated into a major fight.  Pallavi later accused her sister of having a relationship with Mallesh, at which point their parents intervened and pacified them.

On Thursday morning, Pallavi stormed in with a can of kerosene, poured it on her sister, who was in the bathroom, and lit a matchstick. After hearing her shout, neighbours rushed in and took Puttavenkatamma to KR Hospital. After suffering 50% burns and spending 2 days in hospital's ICU she succumbed late Saturday night, TOI reported.
