A 45-year-old woman was arrested in Karnataka's Kolar district for killing her 18-year-old daughter for falling in love and neglecting her studies, police said on Tuesday

"Venkatamma, an agricultural labourer, was arrested on Monday on charges of murder for hitting her daughter Rajeshwari with an iron rod, killing her on the spot," Kolar Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch Sepat told IANS over phone.

According to the police, Venkatamma was angry over an alleged affair of Rajeshwari with a youth in their Chinnapura village. The village is around 8 km from Kolar.

"The accused confessed to the crime. She told police that her daughter was dating a boy of the village and had failed in her exam," Sepat said.

According to reports, Rajeshwari, who was a II PU student, had failed in her English exam in March.

Sub-Inspector S.A Shivaraj of Kolar Rural Police said Venkatamma was produced on Tuesday in the Sessions Court, which sent her to judicial custody.

Venkatamma's husband passed away 15 years ago and since then, she had brought up her three children on her own, reported The Times of India. The newspaper report says that Venkatamma was upset that a few of the villagers had questioned her over Rajeshwari's alleged relationship.
