Tumakuru police are on the lookout for a man who made a young man and woman strip naked and attempted to rape the woman.

A couple from Tumakuru district lodged a complaint at the Koratagere police station a day after they were forced to strip by an unknown man who claimed to be a forest guard.

Eighteen-year-old Neha (name changed) and 21-year-old Karan (name changed) were sitting together in the Siddarabetta area on Sunday afternoon, which is surrounded by hills, when a man posing as a forest guard accosted them and led to a deserted forested area.

Koratagere Inspector Muniraju S, said that the man was dressed in a khakhi-coloured uniform and asked them to strip naked. He took pictures of the couple and threatened to show the photographs to other villagers, who would be furious and would beat them up.

The man also allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman. However, the woman hit him and managed to escape from him. The Hindu reported that she spent the night in the forest, which is known to be inhabited by sloth bears. In the morning, covering herself with leaves and branches, she approached women working in fields who gave her clothes.

The boy also managed to escape and attempted to look for the girl, The Hindu reported.

The girl and boy lodged a complaint with the Koratagere police station, who have registered a complaint of attempt to rape and are on the lookout for the accused. In the complaint they have mentioned that the accused was between 25-30 years old.

Muniraju said that the area is covered with hills and it would take some time to trace the person.
