The News Minute | August 29, 2014 | 2.57 pm ISTA 28-year-old Manipuri youth was assaulted at Lakshmipura, Bangalore in broad daylight by a man identified as Sanketh, and allegedly in the presence of a policeman. The Hindu reports that Ngamkholien Haokip was assaulted when he had asked the assailant to get down from his bike. “Taking objection to this, he pounced on me and assaulted me,” Haokip told The Hindu. As the assault was happening some beat constables were passing by and rather than helping the Manipuri youth, according to The Hindu, the police ‘asked Sanketh to walk away’ and the onlookers to disperse. When Haokip and his friends approached the Indira Nagar police for help the officials played down the issue. They were asked by the police to bring the assailant to the station. Sanketh allegedly threatened Haokip the next day for filing a complaint and this made the Manipuri youth approach the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The DCP said that Sanketh has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
