In what may be seen as a warning for the Karnataka Chief Minister to get his act together, senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Tuesday, said that Siddaramaiah’s days in office could be numbered.

Poojary was speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Mangaluru press club.

Deccan Chronicle reports that the warning pertains to the CM’s “failure in handling issues, including the ongoing strike.”

Poojary is also reported to have hinted at a leadership change in Karnataka. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundurao had directed just a week ago that no press conference where the government or the CM is criticized would be held at the office of District Congress Committee. The directive came in response to complaints by certain Congress leaders against press conferences held by Poojary in which CM was heavily criticized.

Poojary has come down heavily on Siddaramaih in the past. It was reported in June that Gundurao had openly criticized Poojary over “unhappiness over CM’s manner of functioning”.

“Are you (Mr Siddaramaiah) trying to make Karnataka a ‘Congress free’ state?  Congress is the party that brought independence to the country and toiled for its development. You joined the Congress 6-7 years ago. Do you know the Congress culture? In the next election, people might make the state free of Siddaramaiah,” he was quoted as saying.
