The BJP in Karnataka released a "chargesheet" against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, accusing it of failures in governance. The 29-point chargesheet was released by party state president BS Yeddyurappa, Jagdish Shettar and Shobha Karandlaje on Thursday.

According to reports, the 63-page political chargesheet titled “Presented a mountain of promises but people left clutching only hardships“, raised issues including farmer crisis, political murders, corruption and the major controversies that rocked the state government in the past four years.

“There have been around 6,521 murders, with 2,534 victims being women, in different parts of the state in the last four years. Nearly 1.25 lakh criminal cases have been registered in Bengaluru alone in this period," Yeddyurappa was quoted as saying.

Not only have there been innumerable instances of political violence, but attacks on bureaucrats and an overall decline in maintaining law and order was seen, the BJP alleged.

The party also accused the state government of corruption and said the government even influenced anti-corruption agencies to give a clean chit in a number of controversial cases. To emphasise their argument, the BJP leaders also quoted from a recent study by the Centre for Media Studies, New Delhi, that found that Karnataka topped the list in corruption in public services.

Farmer issues and the government's "failure" to tackle the consecutive drought in the state, also found mention in the BJP's chargesheet. The Congress government was accused of failing to deliver on their election promises in 2013. "The Congress government is a total failure," Yeddyurappa lashed out. 

However, KPCC President G Parameshwara dismissed the allegations of the BJP, terming them as "utter lies" and defended the CM and his government.

“Karnataka is a progressive state, and Bengaluru has been described as the world's most dynamic city. But, the BJP is making these false statements and misleading the public for political reasons," TOI quoted him as saying. 

Countering the BJP's allegation that the crime rate in Karnataka has increased drastically, Parameshwara claimed that the state's share in the national crime index is way too less than the other states and even questioned where BJP was "getting its data from." 

The report also quoted Social welfare minister H Anjaneya as saying that the recently concluded bye-polls are enough indication that the people of Karnataka were not paying heed to the allegations raised by the opposition parties.
