A municipal council employee in Raichur district of Karnataka has been arrested for assaulting his female colleague.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday and ANI has published the CCTV footage which shows the man kicking the woman.

The accused has been identified as Sharanappa, a contractual employee with the city municipal council in Sindhanur, where the victim Nasreen is a permanent employee.

The Times of India reported police officials as saying that after Nasreen came late to office that day, Sharanappa got into an argument with her and kicked her.

"On Saturday, there was a holiday in SCMC office but two employees (Nasreen and Sharanappa) were assigned to work so they could clear some backlog. Nasreen is a permanent employee while Sharanappa is hired on a contract basis as a computer operator," a senior police official told ToI.

He added that "Nasreen was observing fast during Ramzan and is said to have turned up late to work."

Nasreen filed a complaint against Sharanappa following which the police arrested him.

Police said that Sharanappa has been involved in other cases of assault as well in the past.
