Giving a new spin to the leopard escape episode, a high level probe ordered to reconstruct the sequence of its escape has found that the big cat was smart enough to script its own escape from the Bannerghatta Rescue Centre, reports the Bangalore Mirror.

The leopard whose recent appearance in a sub-urban school created havoc was captured after a 14 hour long operation. However, the leopard made its way out of a rescue centre on February 15 after breaching over three barriers.

According to BM, a report was submitted by a four member team headed by former principal chief conservator of forests, Deepak Sarmah to Karnataka government. The report which has noted a few errors of judgment on part of the BRC officials in holding custody of the leopard ruled out any deliberate effort by the keepers to let it out.

BM quoted a source who said "the tiger enclosure where this leopard was kept was not locked properly," while referring to the report submitted.

"As the cage was meant for a tiger it was easy for the leopard to crawl out through the gaps,” the source added.

According to reports in BM, forest minister B Ramanatha Rai has acknowledged that the committee has submitted the report. However, he is yet to go through it and is likely comment on the same in the upcoming assembly session.
