An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) aspirant on Sunday was forced to cut his shirt’s sleeves, minutes before he could enter the examination hall in Mysuru on Sunday.

The 18-year-old  was one among the many IIT aspirants in Mysuru, who were stopped at the gates of Sadvidya College- the exam centre- for not abiding by the dress code. Boys and girls in full sleeves were allowed only after they changed to half-sleeves, reported Bangalore Mirror.

The rule came about after a cheating racket in All India Pre-Medical Test conducted by CBSE in 2015. At that time, wristwatches, full-sleeved shirts and earrings were banned.

The rule was extended to other exams like IIT-JEE too.

Even requests to the officials to frisk the students wearing full-sleeves thoroughly also did not help. A few students were sent back minutes before the exam to change while others sought quick solutions like cutting off their sleeves at the exam centre itself.

Some students reportedly swapped clothes with their parents.

BM reported that a girl who had come in a full-sleeved kurta was sent back but never returned.

Central Board of Secondary Education officials claimed that the invigilators were only doing their duty.
