The notice issued states that the University had received a total of 266.27 acres of land from the government for educational purpose, of which 55.19 acres of land was used as per grant conditions. The 109.38 acres of land in question was used to build a multi-storied hostel for NRI students which was allegedly constructed on a land under the green belt, and hence it was a violation of the norms. The varsity has been given one month's time to reply to the notice issued by the district administration and pay the fine, failing which it could seize the land or demolish the property built on the land, the report added.Registrar of Manipal Unversity GK Prabhu denied the charges and said the land was used for educational purposes and the properties were authorised constructions.
