The News Minute | July 9, 2014 | 4.59 pm ISTThe state government will withdraw minor cases against Maoists, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday. In a meeting the Karnataka government held with writers and activists over resolving conflict with Maoists, the Chief Minister, who chaired the meeting, said that while the government would withdraw minor cases, serious cases could not be ignored. Activists and writers including Dalit writer Devanoor Mahadeva and journalist Gauri Lankesh were present during the meeting. All three parties, however, agreed that the bloodshed should stop.Devanoor Mahadeva said that the government must attempt to stop the bloodshed that has been going on over the years. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Gauri Lankesh said that the Chief Minister had responded favourably to the discussions. She also said that there was the possibility of two Maoists surrendering to the government. The Chief Minister said that the even the surrender of two Maoists was good for future prospects.
