Five engineering students drowned at an abandoned quarry pit at Chikkajala, near Bengaluru International Airport on Thursday afternoon, a Times of India report said.  Eight students of fourth semester studying electrial and communication at the nearby Revanna Siddeshwara Engineering College had ventured into the quarry for a swim.  The police have recovered four bodies so far and are on lookout for the other body. The deceased are Arun Chandra Shetty, Khem Patalim, Nanda Kumar KR and Rajesh Karan Lamba and search conitnues for the body of Harish A.  Hari Nandan, who did not go into the water said that as Arun ventured deeper in the water, he began shouting for help as he had begun to drown. "Arun grabbed Khem's hand, pulling him down. As Khem began to go under, Rajesh swam to rescue them, but even he drowned. Harish and Nanda Kumar rushed to grab them, but all five slowly drowned. The last thing I saw was Khem's raised hands. He fought till the last and made every attempt to swim back," the paper quoted Hari.   The boys immediately reached out to the police and ambulance services for help. Two rescue teams reached the site and fished out the bodies of the four students. "This is a prohibited area because of the inherent danger as the water is at least 80 feet deep. The bodies of four students were fished out by the rescue team. The operation was stopped at 6.45pm due to bad light, and will commence tomorrow morning," DCP Vikas told the paper.
