Amid anger over lack of support from Sandalwood for the Cauvery issue, some actors have expressed support for farmers.

Since the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu on Monday, farmers have demanded the resignation of all the MPs from Mandya – where two of the dams on the Cauvery are located. They also expressed anger at the lack of support from Sandalwood.

Farmers burned posters of Sudeep-starrer "Kotigobba 2". They also burned posters of actor and former minister MH Ambareesh and garlanded a photo of former Mandya MP Ramya with footwear.

Amid this eruption of anger, Ragini Dwivedi has exhorted people to support cultivators over the Cauvery issue and asked why Karnataka should give water to Tamil Nadu.

In a video uploaded on her Twitter handle, Ragini has said: “Cauvery is ours, we will not let it go. Why should we give water when we don’t have any? Come out for the struggle, stand with the farmers. I’m supporting the farmers, you too should.”

Separately, actor and comedian Jaggesh spoke to cinema portal Cineloka.com, and expressed the support of the Kannada film industry for the farmers. He said that under the leadership of Sa.Ra. Govindu, the president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, the industry would support the shutdown called by farmers’ groups and Kannada organizations.

In Chennai, Congress leader and actor Nagma said the dispute between the two states was “complex”, but urged people in Tamil Nadu to remember that they had received a lot of help from people in Karnataka, especially Bengaluru, during the 2015 floods.
