Written by : TNM Staff

A huge fire engulfed the APMC yard on PB road in Davangere town on late Sundaynight.

The Agricultural Produce Market Committee yard in Davangere is spread out over 10 acres of land and is divided into 4 blocks.

While there were no casualties reported, the district fire officer Basavaprabhu Sharma told The News Minute that twenty-five shops in one of the four blocks were burnt down. "Rs 25 lakh worth property was lost in the fire."

"On Sunday evening the shopkeepers had a puja to celebrate Deepavali. They did not douse the diyas before leaving. The fire from that has caught on to some material in the shop. The fire spread in no time bringing a whole block down to ashes," he said.

"Over 9 fire tenders were moved to the spot to douse the fire, and took us more than four hours," he added.
